Solar-panel wildlife protection in NYC and New Jersey

Solar Panel Bird & Critter Guard Installation in NY & NJ

Birds, squirrels and raccoons can nest, travel or shelter beneath rooftop solar panels. Animal Control NY/NJ inspects the array and surrounding roof conditions before recommending a perimeter-guard plan for properties in New York City and covered New Jersey service areas.

The first visit is an in-person inspection. Panel count, roof access, animal activity and existing conditions determine the recommended scope and pricing.

Why animals gather under solar panels

The space beneath a solar array can provide shade and cover. Birds may bring nesting material under the panels, while squirrels and raccoons may travel across the roof or investigate the protected space.

A critter guard is intended to reduce access around the panel perimeter after current activity and site conditions are evaluated. It is not a substitute for resolving an active animal problem or addressing damaged areas identified during inspection.

What solar-panel critter guards help address

Nesting access

Help reduce access to the sheltered area beneath panels after active nesting or wildlife concerns are evaluated.

Recurring roof traffic

Address perimeter gaps animals may use while traveling around the array and nearby roofline.

Debris and droppings

Identify nesting material, droppings or other debris that may require separate removal or sanitation planning.

Inspection comes before installation

We inspect the accessible panel perimeter, roof pitch, array layout, visible animal signs, nesting material and nearby roofline conditions. Access, safety and any need to coordinate with a solar provider or other contractor are considered before work is proposed.

  • Number and arrangement of panels
  • Roof height, pitch and safe access
  • Visible bird, squirrel or raccoon activity
  • Nesting material and droppings
  • Existing damage near the array
  • Conduit, corners and perimeter gaps

Reducing access by birds, squirrels, and raccoons

Birds

Bird activity may include nesting material, feathers and droppings beneath or around panels. See our bird control services.

Squirrels

Squirrels can travel rooflines and investigate panel gaps. Nearby branches, fascia and other access points may also matter. Learn about squirrel removal and exclusion.

Raccoons

Raccoons can move across roofs and disturb vulnerable areas near an array. Active raccoon concerns are evaluated before guard work. Review our raccoon removal services.

RECENT SOLAR PANEL PROJECT

26-Panel Raccoon Guard Installation

A Queens homeowner contacted Animal Control NY/NJ to help prevent raccoons from getting beneath a 26-panel solar array and damaging the roof or panels. After inspecting the roof access and panel layout, our team installed a heavy-gauge mesh barrier around the perimeter of the array.

Every roof and solar array is different. We inspect the panel layout, roof pitch, access, and animal activity before recommending the appropriate guard system. Solar-panel bird and critter guard installation is available throughout NYC and in our New Jersey service areas.

How the installation is planned

Inspect

Review the array, roof access and visible wildlife conditions in person.

Define the scope

Account for panel count, perimeter shape, pitch, access and existing conditions.

Address active issues

Determine whether current animal activity, nesting material or damage needs attention first.

Fit the guard

Install the specified barrier around the approved perimeter using the method selected for that array.

Cleanup is evaluated separately. Nesting-material removal, droppings cleanup, sanitation coordination or animal-damage repair may require a separate scope based on the condition and access.

Solar-panel critter guard FAQ

What happens on the first visit?

The first visit is an in-person inspection of the accessible array, roof conditions and visible animal activity. Recommendations and pricing depend on the findings.

Can guards be installed while animals are active beneath the panels?

Active animal or nesting concerns need to be evaluated before the perimeter is closed. The sequence depends on the species and site conditions.

What affects the size of the job?

Panel count, perimeter shape, roof pitch, roof height, access, nesting material and existing damage can all affect the scope.

Is cleanup included automatically?

No. Nesting-material removal, droppings cleanup, sanitation coordination and repairs are evaluated separately based on the affected area and approved scope.

Do you cover every location in New Jersey?

No. We serve covered New Jersey areas, and availability is confirmed using the property location and current scheduling.
